Anthony Giles

Anthony lives and works in Margate Kent. Surrounded by Turner’s ‘best skies in all of Europe’, he paints with a passion, large canvasses that capture the beauty of the downlands, marshes and beaches that surround him. Rainclouds dark and laden above a foaming foreshore with just a glimmer of light on the horizon, or a summer squall moving quickly across a beach obliterating light and form are everything that Anthony loves about painting on the Kent coast.

Many of his paintings, even the larger pieces are started en plein air and May have mud, sand or grass stuck to them which is left on the finished work. This gives the painting a bond with the actual place it was created and put down onto canvas.

Indeed, many visitors to Anthony’s studio in margates Old Town will leave with an unfinished piece because these raw canvasses hold something of the moment.  Anthony’s work is held in collections worldwide.

Anthony has appeared on several  Television programmes, including  BBC South East News, Landscape Artist of the Year, Four in a Bed and  Britain by beach.
